Though there a many works by civil-war-veteran Bierce worth reading, Robin likes one masterpiece in particular:      

An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge.


First published in 1890 this short story is now one of the most famous in American literature using the Stream of Consciousness as its narrative method. Robin showed it to a friend who thought of himself as being really cold and evil but said he had to cry after reading it. You have been warned!
