Were Caligula and Bathory actually innocent?

Caligula:
It is said that he was insane and had sexual intercourse with his sisters, but all this is known only from his assassins, there are no other sources.
He was probably an arrogant cynic, but not insane in the psychiatric sense. His lifestyle was not more dissolute than that of other Roman emperors.

Elizabeth Bathory:
She is said to have slaughtered over 600 virgins and bathed in their blood to obtain eternal youth. Only – her accusers tortured the countess’s servants to get the desired statements. The Countess herself was walled up and her lands were divided among the accusers.
Robin suspects that the Countess was the victim of a political intrigue.
