Robin saw the 1979 James Bond film Moonraker, with Roger Moore as Bond and Louis Chiles as his playmate, the beautiful CIA agent Dr Holly Goohead. It was directed by Lewis Gilbert. Here are Robin’s thoughts:
Pre-title sequence.
Con: Stupid as hell not to shoot a secret agent, but to throw him out of a flying private jet and kill him in mid-air.
Pro: There was no CGI back then, so the stunts are all real. As an action scene, this sets the standard and is therefore movie history.
With Gadget Gondola in Venice.
Contra: Don’t forget that the man is actually a secret agent undercover to save the world. The hovercraft gondola on St. Mark’s Square in Venice is extremely flashy, but good entertainment value.
Pro: Good stunts.
The Moonrakers take off into space.
Cons: Why doesn’t anyone notice? The construction of the space station aside.
Pro: The set design by Ken Adams is great.
The conquest of the space station.
Contra. Why isn’t it shot from Earth?
Why do the astronauts shoot each other down without any protection?
Why is there an extra docking station for the heroes?
The main thing is that the hero makes love to the heroine at the end and the world is saved.
