Robin went to see the film Lincoln by Steven Spielberg.
Despite being overlong, it was very exciting and entertaining, especially the dialogue was very good.
About the history: Lincoln was not an opportunist, but an honest opponent of slavery, but the reasons for the civil war were economic – if it had not been the abolition of slavery, something else would have been found as war propaganda.
Unfortunately, the film does not take this into account, but presents the reason for the war as a struggle for human rights. It has always been a peculiarity of the USA to use pseudo-moralistic reasons as a reason for war.
The beneficiaries, however, are of course the coloured people. Robin would nevertheless have welcomed a more critical approach.
