Life Of Pi (2012)Posted in - Robin's Reviews
Life of Pi is a film from 2012 that’s based on the novel of the same name from Yann Martel, Ddrected by Ang Lee, and written by David Magee, the film stars Suraj Sharma, Irrfan Khan, Rafe Spall, Tabu, Adil Hussain, and Gérard Depardieu
It is about an Indian boy named “Pi” who, after being shipwrecked and losing his family, drifts for months in a lifeboat on the open sea together with a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker..
In the beginning, the lifeboat also contains a zebra, a hyena and a female orangutan named Orange Juice.
At the end, the hero tells the story again, only instead of the orangutan it is his mama, instead of the hyena it is the ship’s cook and instead of the tiger it is himself. He asks the listener to decide for himself which story he likes better.
In the end, the castaway reaches dry land and the tiger disappears into the jungle after initially staring at it, never to be seen again. Instead, other people come and rescue the hero.
“The tiger represents the predator side of the hero, which emerges far from civilization on the open sea, and which disappears again as soon as people are around again.”
“Absolutely worth seeing!”
