Gothic literature – what would it be like today?
The underlying principle in Gothic stories is: the main character is completely normal, is seduced into breaking a taboo and is “saved” (possibly she dies at the end, in which case it is especially sad).
To this day, homosexuality is supposedly taboo. So, the heroine is seduced by a vampire to have lesbian sex, her fiancé kills the vampire and the heroine becomes straight again.
Or: the protagonist is totally politically correct at the beginning, is seduced by the antagonist and becomes politically totally incorrect. But in the end the antagonist is defeated and the protagonist becomes correct again.
“This would all have satirical potential!”
